#Green Week - easy ways to be more sustainable at UWE
Stop buying bottled water
Buy a nice reusable bottle and you are able to refill it all over campus to your heart's content at our hydration stations. This saves the planet and your money so...
Okay, so it's 2020, if you are not recycling by now then COME ON.
Plastic waste (e.g carrier bags and bottles) that end up in our oceans kill approximately 1,000,000 sea creature every year.
Use less water
Simple, yet effective. Have shorter showers, don't leave the tap running whilst brushing your teeth.
Don't lose heart if you don't have a dishwasher, you'll still save water if you fill up your sink or washing up bowl with hot water and wash your dishes that way, rather than running the tap!
Even if it is still plugged in but you are not using it, the appliance will still be draining energy.
Turn off the lights!!!!!
Whether it's from the uni's fruit and veg stall or one of the many fruit and veg shops down Gloucester Road, buy from these rather than supermarkets!! Your money goes to local businesses, they don't use ridiculous amounts of plastic and its cheaper.
Ditch 5p bags - we <3 bags 4 life
Please try and remember your bags every time you go shopping, p.s. canvas bags are better than plastic bags. (see below).
Charity Shop (till you drop)
It's a lot better for the environment (and not to mention loads of fun) to find secondhand clothes in charity and vintage shops, and there are plenty here in Bristol! This will also suit your new student budget a lot better than those weekly ASOS shops.
Decrease meat consumption
I'm not asking you to go vegan, but consider cutting down on the amount of meat you are eating - even cutting it out of one meal a week can help! When you do eat meat, look for labels that specify free-range, organic and hormone and antibiotic-free.
