What should I do in the Gym?

Looking to embark on your fitness journey but don’t know where to start?

Your first visit to gym can be daunting. There are so many questions!

  •  Do I need to do cardio?
  •  What machines do I use?
  •  How many reps should I be doing?
  •  Will lifting weights leave me looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger?

If these are things that have been putting you off going to the gym then don’t worry, our team of fully qualified Trainers are here to help.

Did you know that as part of your membership we offer a Personalised Programme Service? This is when one of our Trainers designs a workout plan for you to follow in the gym, and it’s completely free!

The Personalised Programme Service is carried out over two appointments. The first appointment will be an initial consultation with a member of our team. During the consultation we will discuss your previous exercise experience, and any health or medical conditions you may have. More importantly, the Trainer will want to find out what your aims and goals are and what you are looking to achieve from going to the gym.

It might be that you want to train for a 10k. You could be looking to increase muscle mass or reduce body fat. Some people train to improve Sports performance, while others just want to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle. Whatever it is, we’re here to help.

After you’ve agreed your aims and goals, the Trainer will then design an exercise programme specific to you and your goals.

Once your programme has been written up, we will book you in for a second appointment. During this appointment we will take you through each exercise on the workout, making sure you understand everything on it. We want you to feel totally comfortable with it the next time you are in. It also gives you the chance to ask the Trainer any questions you might have about exercise.

We will give you a printout or digital copy of the workout so you can track your progress as you go. Doing this will allow our Trainers to make changes to the programme when necessary. We usually recommend booking in for a review every 6-8 weeks.
