Looking for something to do in Glasgow?

By FreshSocial 11 Oct 2017

Here are some cool & lesser-known places to visit!

The Foundry Courtyard Glasgow team have put together a list of some of their favourite places to go.

1.   Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre

Probably the most bizarre, creepy yet utterly wonderful exhibition you can see in Glasgow. Eduard Bersudsky’s kinetic sculptures are made from carved figures and scrap materials and they perform. Yes, perform! We don’t want to give too much away – just go and see it. We recommend the full 70 minute show which takes place on Sundays and Thursdays at 7pm. This must be booked in advance which you can do here. Remember to select concession to receive your student discount!

2.   Arlington Baths

The Arlington Baths is the oldest surviving Victorian complex of its kind! It has a 21 metre skylit swimming pool with a trapeze and travelling rings! There is also a sauna, steam room and hot tubs if you need to take some time away from studying to relax.

3.   Britannia Panopticon

Britannia Panopticon is the world’s oldest music hall which has been around since 1857! It’s open to the public for viewing 12 - 5pm Tuesday - Saturday (except for when an event is on). Entry is free although it is custom to leave a donation on your way out. Gillian, Foundry Courtyard’s Accommodation Manager, actually saw a ghost here a few years ago…eeeek! They host various events throughout the year including their upcoming Drag-Opticon Halloween Special. Check out their website for more info.

4.    Tchai Ovna

Tchai-Ovna is “An Aladdin’s cave of teas” which also serves vegetarian food. This quaint little hidden gem is tucked away in Dobbie’s Loan in the West End of Glasgow – just a few minutes’ walk from Kelvinbridge underground. You can spend an afternoon there trying their various specialty teas, read, play games and unwind. They also host events and have live music. Check out their Facebook Page to find out what’s coming up!

5. Comedy Club (Yesbar Basement)

The Yesbar basement is a full time Comedy Club with gigs on every night of the week! It usually reaches capacity so we suggest booking in advance to avoid disappointment. They are known to secure some fantastic upcoming comedians and headliners – you never know who you might see in this intimate comedy club!
