Returning to Halls

Following the latest government guidance we are aware many of you are still at home. Please remember that only students with face-to-face teaching, or those students without access to appropriate study spaces or facilities in their vacation accommodation, should return. All other students should remain where they are where possible. Please see the below guidance on the necessary steps to take if you are returning to halls.

Book an arrival slot

In order to safely manage the arrivals process back into Halls, you will need to book an arrival slot for your return. This will allow us to manage numbers each day within social distancing guidance and to make the process a safe one for all involved. When booking your arrival slot to Halls, please book an appropriate slot to facilitate your return to Campus in time for the recommended return date provided by your department.

Get a test before returning

We are strongly encouraging all students to take a COVID-19 test at home prior to travelling back to Campus. This is in order to help keep everyone safe, as well as allow people to continue with their planned teaching. You can take a test before travelling either by visiting a local test centre, or by requesting a Government at-home testing kit.

Similar to the guidance provided before travelling home, you should aim to travel within 24 hours of a negative test result and continue to observe the latest public health guidance at all times. This means that you're reducing the risk of onward transmission both while you travel and when you return to Halls. Once you have returned to Halls, we recommend that you take a further test three days after you return.

In the event that you receive a positive test result prior to your planned return, or start displaying any of the symptoms of COVID-19, please self-isolate immediately and book a confirmatory ‘with symptoms’ test. You should self-isolate at home and not return to campus until your isolation period has ended.

Getting a test on arrival

If you are unable to take a test before you travel, we ask that you take one before you return to your flat.

On arrival to your Hall you should first drop off any luggage you have with you at the dedicated luggage storage area we will have set up. This will be located as follows, and will have staff present to supervise left belongings: 

  • Greenbank - Reception/Common Room
  • Melville – Car Park Areas
  • Vine Court – external communal area between the two main blocks
  • Tudor Close – luggage storage at Vine Court
  • Dover Court – common room/communal area
  • Philharmonic Court – common room/communal area
  • Crown – underground car park 

You should then go directly to the test centre located in the Sports Centre on-campus (where there will be a queue specifically for Halls arrivals) or Greenbank House at Greenbank Student Village.

You will then be able to take a test, with results received within an hour. There will be a socially distanced waiting area which you will be asked to stay in whilst you await the results of your test.

  • If your result is negative, you can then return to collect your luggage and continue on to your flat.
  • If your result is positive, the staff in the test centre will support you with next steps, which will include taking a confirmatory ‘with symptoms test’, as well as contacting your Hall Reception to make arrangements for your period of self-isolation. The Halls will have a limited number of dedicated rooms set up across the Halls where you can self-isolate away from your flat, so you may be offered temporary accommodation in one of these rooms if available, and if you would be happy to do so. This is in order to help keep your friends and the University community safe and well.

If you do not wish to attend a University test-centre, details of the testing centres and opening times across the City can also be seen on the Liverpool City Council website. The test centre located at Liverpool Tennis Academy is the closest one to Greenbank Student Village. Should you test positive as part of this testing, please phone your Hall Reception and follow the normal reporting procedures for notifying the University.

Regular testing

All staff and students who are on campus, including those in our Halls of Residence, are expected to take an asymptomatic COVID 19 test twice weekly, or once every three days. This includes students living in our Halls of Residence. Testing can be done using the University’s asymptomatic testing service in the Sports Centre or Greenbank Student Village (details can be found here) or one of the SMART testing facilities in the city (details here).

If you have any symptoms suggestive of COVID-19, it is vitally important that you obtain a test and isolate until the result is known. Tests for people with symptoms of COVID-19 can be booked here.
