6 Things to Do in Leicester City

By Mohammad 01 Jan 2019

The flexibility of being a student gives you a fantastic opportunity to explore all that Leicester City has to offer. This is one of the most multi-cultural and diverse places in the country and so there is plenty of new experiences to try!

1) National Space Centre
The National space centre is one of the must-see attractions of Leicester. With the largest planetarium in the UK and six interactive galleries, this is an opportunity you’ll want to take advantage of.

2) King Power Stadium and Welford Road Stadium
As I’m sure you’re aware and equally tired of hearing, Leicester City won the Premier League in the 2015/16 season. Whether you’re a football fan or not it would be a great day out to go and watch a game at the stadium and visit the home of the former champions.

Located just half a mile away from King Power stadium is the home of the mighty tigers and also where the rugby varsity game is held. The Tigers have a rich history in the rugby union and with regular deals from the Student Union it’s definitely worth a visit.

3) The Botanical Gardens
The botanical gardens are a beautiful place to go for a walk and to relax. Open 7 days a week 10am – 4pm with free entry and as it is located in Oadby, there is plenty of opportunity to go and enjoy the scenery.

4) New Walk Museum
Located down the stunning walkway between the city centre and the University is the home of New Walk Museum. This is a free to enter museum with loads of interesting exhibits including an Egyptian section and a prehistoric section.

5) Highcross Shopping Centre
With over 120 shops, Highcross caters to all people including designer and high-street shops as well as loads of restaurants and a Showcase cinema. Whether you’re going for a whole new wardrobe or just window shopping, this shopping centre will give you everything you need.

6) The Golden Mile
The Golden Mile is just 10 minutes walk from Leicester city centre but has gained itself a reputation as the nearest the UK gets to a true Indian bazaar, with a dazzling array of shops and restaurants bringing alive a genuine flavour of the subcontinent.
