How we got here: Mannequin House

By FreshSocial 18 Oct 2017

Our site has a rich history that you might not know about, and it’s been a long journey that we thought we’d share with you! So what’s so great about Mannequin House? Well…

We started on the site of an old Mannequin Factory – hence the name: Mannequin House. There’s been a long history here with the original factory, which was over 100 years old, producing transportation for the First World War, and before the mannequin factory took over in 2002, slippers were made here for Marks and Spencer.

Now move forward to today and we’re a huge student accommodation building with 42 studios and 485 en-suite bedrooms making up 87 shared flats. Have you seen our Penthouse Studios? They have amazing city views and you can spot many London landmarks from the Shard to Canary Wharf.

The building has been designed with students in mind. We have a brand new social space with high-end modern furnishings and accessories with huge TVs, a games console, table football and a pool table. And have you seen our special art installation? We’ve also got a huge reception area where you can socialise too. We’ve got regular social events so you’ll never be bored, and have plenty of opportunities to make friends!

You’re also here to study, so we have a dedicated Study Room with large blackboard and TV area. There’s also comfy private seating and large tables for project work. When you need a break for some fresh air get out to our private courtyard which is exclusively for you, and you can even play outdoor table tennis.

We’re just one minute away from Blackhorse Road tube station, on the Victoria Line and overground. As the second stop on the Victoria line southbound into the city (just 12 minutes to central London), and the quietest stop on the line, you’re almost guaranteed to get a seat. And it’s on the night tube too so you can get home at any time on Fridays and Saturdays.

Walthamstow has a great community feel, and there’s plenty to see and do. Blackhorse Road/Lane is a real hub for artists – as you can see from this art installation right outside the station, so welcome to the home of the people who make and create! If you want to have a go at creating, take a class at the local Blackhorse Workshop.

Everything you need is close by, with the Co-op in our retail space! But we’re sure you’ll want to do some exploring too. With central Walthamstow just a 10 minute bus road away, you can really take advantage of all there is to offer. From the Walthamstow Street Market for everything from fresh fruit and veg to some bargains, (and it’s the longest outdoor street market in Europe), to God’s Own Junkyard – a place to get a drink and see the largest collection of neon signs – perfect for your Instagram. We’ve also got some discounts with local businesses, just pop into reception and ask our on-site staff for more info! So, have you booked your room at Mannequin House yet?
