How to spend your student loan wisely

By FreshSocial 01 Jan 2019

After counting down the days until your next student loan drops, you're probably wondering what to buy first.

It's a new year so let's be the most sensible version of ourselves. We have the best ideas around for ways to treat yourself that won't break the bank.

Branded items:
You may have been living off supermarket own-brand baked beans (which have nothing on Heinz btw), so now is your time to stock up on the tastiest of brands. Don't stop at Heinz, say hello to Hellmann's, Kellogg's, and Warburtons!

Bedding: Now that you're a whizz at doing your own washing, this is the perfect opportunity to invest in some more bedding. You can get really inexpensive sets from the likes of IKEA and Primark. Who doesn't love that fresh bedding feeling?!

Takeaways:
Was 2018 the year you decided to cut back on these and save your money? The odd delivery pizza or Chinese takeaway doesn't have to break the bank, and it's ok to indulge every now and again. Services like Just Eat, UberEATS and Deliveroo often have tempting deals so you don't break the bank!

Subscriptions: Whether it be for the gym, Netflix or Spotify, it's hard to imagine a world without some of our fave subscriptions. While having all the films, TV shows and exercise you could want, be mindful of your monthly outgoings. Really think about the subscriptions you need most!

Clothes:
January sales are upon us! If you didn't get everything you needed (and wanted) for Christmas, check out the sales for the best bargains. It's nice to be able to treat yourself, but make sure you're spending money on what you actually need.

Fill the fridge: Along with your fave branded foods, stock up on things for your freezer, fridge and cupboards - you'll thank yourself later when your money is a bit tighter.

Pay off fines:
Complete some life admin while you have the chance. If you've got library fines stacking up or parking tickets, now is the chance to pay them off. There's no point waiting until your loan runs out, as the fines may have increased by then. Just get them out of the way!

The best way to utilise your loan is to spread it evenly across the term, that way you can still afford to treat yourself every now and again.

Spend responsibly, guys!
