It's often the little things that cost nothing like sharing your food or offering someone a cup of tea that make people smile...
Especially as university can sometimes be a stressful time, relying on a few close friends and flatmates to get you through is vital.
Here are just a few things you should be doing to make sure you're a flatmate's favourite:
- Be a good listener
Providing a shoulder to cry on or offering someone advice can be really important when someone's upset. Plus, you'd want someone to return the favour if you're ever in that position.
- Be clean!
Whether it's in the kitchen or living areas, it's important to tidy up after yourself. Don't be that person who gets moaned at for being the messy one.
- Sharing is caring
It's expected that you'll end up borrowing and sharing essentials like milk, butter and bread but always ask before you take it! If you've used someone else's food, be prepared to let them use yours.
- Have some respect
If your flatmate's got an exam the next day or has their head buried in revision books then keep the noise down. If you plan on having a few people over, then let people know beforehand.
- Offer to do things
It might be picking them something up from the shop or offering to make them a cup of tea, these small gestures can really make someone's day.
- Spend time together
It could be binge-watching a Netflix series in your room, heading out for dinner or enjoying a night out, spending time outside of the flat is really important in getting to know each other and building friendships.
- Appreciate privacy
It's good to spend time together but it's also good to spend time apart. Always knock before walking into someone's room and don't be offended if someone says they just want some alone time. They're not being anti-social, they might just be tired!
