A guide to life in Aberdeen
Being in Aberdeen means that you have a lot to do and see during your time there!
The Granite City has everything from perfect parks to quirky cafés so here are just a few places you should check out once you've unpacked and got yourself settled:
You've got a few parks to choose from in Aberdeen but this is by far the nicest. With over 44 acres of land to explore, an indoor winter garden, sports pitches, a bandstand and events going on throughout the year, you're spoilt for choice.
There aren't many places in the UK that have a beach less than a 20-minute walk from the city centre but Aberdeen has just that! A walk along the sand will be just what you need after a day of lectures and a lovely way to spend your weekend.
If you're ever in the mood to shop 'til you drop, you have a few choices of places to go, Union Square being up there with the best. With big names like Apple, Zara, MAC and open until 8pm most day, you're set for whenever that loan drops! Check out Bon Accord and Trinity Centre too.
This cute little Victorian schoolhouse conversion has lots of independent shops where you can pick up some unique finds. The open-air courtyard is packed with places to eat and drink and just enjoy yourself after nosying around the shops.
The Long Dog Café
If you're all shopped out and fancy some good food, this is the place for you. The dog-friendly spot serves the best brownies in the city and just look at those milkshakes! It's safe to say you'll be in a HUGE food coma after but it'll be totally worth it. Gains, right?
For a tasty (and budget) Spanish feast, pop into Café Andaluz and pick and choose your favourite tapas dishes to share with your new BFF's. With the menu starting from £4.50, this is a great, affordable place to check out with a group.
Seen as you're an Aberdeen resident for the time being, you need to support your local teams! Start with Aberdeen FC in the Scottish Premiership who play all their home games at Pittodrie Stadium. You don't have to go every week, just go at least once or twice.
Aberdeen Exhibition & Conference Centre
If you're a big music fan and like heading to a gig now and again, AECC has hosted the likes of Little Mix, Stereophonics and Iron Maiden. Try to book a date for the summer and spend it in the sun. If the Scottish weather is on your side that is...
Enjoy exploring your new home!
