6 apps to keep you fit at uni

By FreshSocial 19 Oct 2018

If you promised yourself that you'd take your fitness more seriously now that you've fled the nest, we can help!

Self-motivation isn't easy but by using your smartphone wisely, you can download FREE apps to help you keep physically and mentally fit at university. Check these out:

1. Couch to 5K
Prefer lounging around watching Netflix instead of exercising? You're not alone! BUT by downloading Couch to 5K, you can ease yourself into running and becoming more active. It's the best way to do it rather than forcing yourself to join a gym you know you won't particularly enjoy!
Available on AppleAndroid

2. Map My Run
Once you've motivated yourself to get off the couch, download Map My Run. Press 'start' once you head off on a run and 'stop' on your return so you know how far you're going, whether it's just around the corner or 10K! If you have your earphones in, it'll tell you your speed and distance every kilometre - use this to motivate yourself to pick up the pace.
Available on Apple & Android

3. Sworkit
Everyone would love a strong and toned body, right? Now is your chance to get the body you've always wanted! If you haven't got a gym membership that's no problem, you can complete all of these personalised workouts from the comfort of your FRESH room. To see the best results, make sure you're eating healthy too.

4. Headspace
Being mentally fit is just as important as your physical health. Having an app like Headspace means that you'll take some time each day to meditate and take care of your mental health. It could only be a few minutes but it will have a positive effect on your whole day.
Available on Apple & Android

5. Daily Yoga
Yoga is another exercise that will help your mental health but keep you physically fit too. Don't worry if you haven't done yoga before, you can start as a beginner and gradually build up your strength. Whatever your goals, Daily Yoga has something to suit your goals. Time to try something new!
Available on Apple & Android

6. MyFitnessPal
If you're trying to lose some weight, tone up, get fit, maintain a healthy diet or all of the above, MyFitnessPal is for you! Once you input your height, weight and goals, you can use it as a diary to track your food/drink and exercise for the day. The app then monitors your calorie intake so that you know what you should maybe cut back on or have more of.
Available on Apple & Android
